Yesterday I had a chance and the privilege to meet with refugees living in Berlin.
At first I was a little concerned how can I make connection, in what way will I manage to communicate … A moment later after I entered the room the words started flowing out of me …
I said something like … this is an honor for me to meet people like you who have the courage to seek a better life … And you know what, I left my country three years ago. For different reason than you did but in the same way I had to learn on how to navigate the unfamiliar territory without foreign language skills and no knowledge of the culture.
What gave me the courage then was the dance and the ability to communicate through body language. Body language is common for all of us, regardless the country we come from.
I discovered that we start to communicate very quickly when we enter the same land of desires. The roots of our existence as human beings connect when we meet our longings. We share common hungers … hunger for connection, hunger for belonging, hunger for solitude and hunger for spirit.
Dance floor gives us the possibility of expressing what is often difficult to pass over by words …
And so it went, and I’ve got their hearts! We danced, we laughed and we all shared together our common ground.
This Sunday begins a series of six meetings, where I welcome all seeking souls.
With many thanks to German Dance Association (Dachverband Tanz Deutschland) and especially Amélie Baasner it will be possible to share our dance together with refugees during our meetings.
Come and join us on the common ground!
